Ahh, summer. Warm days, light haze in the air, balmy evenings… occasionally interrupted by a rumble thunder and a brief shower. June… a great month for chasing rainbows. Rainbow… trout that is, as well as brookies and brown trout. These trout in their handsome bright colors can be found in many ponds and brooks. There’s probably one near you.
Now that we’re into summer, you can have some real fun with a fly rod, especially around evening. Hit a hatch and you’ll have a ball watching fish swirl and strike at what you offer. If rules allow for the water you’re on, just a simple hook and worm setup will do the trick. This is great stuff for kids too, as trout are easier to handle. Before you head out, take a peek at NH Fish & Game's fish stocking report to see what has been recently stocked near you – it will up your odds of success. Have fun out there. Tight lines!
